What are your rituals or beliefs around food?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 22, 2008:

being a nutritionist, i am alwiz posed with this question... so eat to live or live to eat?
to  me at a personal level - i am what i eat. and by that i also blv in not harming other livings n order to nourish. recently i even put on my thinking cap - pondering how to reduce rice consumption as the world hit by rice short supply....

beliefs aside - strictly speaking to the disappointment of many there is no "special diet" or "magic food" . i never understood why it seems the favorite question people tend to ask me upon knowing i am a nutritionist.  no one food can supply what a human body needs. it alwiz amaze me how people can even think a complex system like human body can be fueled by one food, one diet plan....

science apart, psychologically, food plays a special role...

how many of us when we fall sick we tend to miss our mother's chicken soup? or when we pass by a bakery; it reminds us of the neighborhood baker....

and the satisfaction you feel when you had the best meal of the day?? the best coffee??? or when u bite the sinful chocolate?

many older people told me " i just eat what i want as long as i live..." am not suppose to judge how another choose to live but its enough to make me think if its true... when u reach a certain age - for some, it seems food is one of the thing u wish to indulge...

food glorious food.... suffice to say the relationship varies and to each individual food represent something of past, future and what you believe....
